Volunteering
Co-op Student Program
The Niagara Safety Village is proud to partner with the District School Board of Niagara and the Niagara Catholic District School Board and the French Language School Boards, in order to provide a Co-operative Education experience for students interested in policing, fire fighting, or becoming a paramedic as a future career choice.
As members of the Niagara Safety Village team, co-op students will work with local Police, Fire, and Paramedics and Regional Educators in order to assist groups of elementary school aged children through safety and positive lifestyle choice lessons. Co-op students will have the opportunity to interact with our Police, Fire, Niagara Region EMS personnel to take part in special events over the course of the semester. All applicant for co-op positions will be required to complete an application, interview, background check, reference checks and placement.
Volunteers
The Niagara Safety Village cannot operate without the assistance of dedicated volunteers. In order to deliver our day to day programs we need your help!
The Niagara Safety Village is eager to partner with willing volunteers to assist with our Police, Fire, and EMS programs.
Our classes generally run between 9:45 am – 1:45 pm Monday through Friday and weekends are available for special events and awareness booths.
Duties of a volunteer include operating the hazard house, helping students in Sparky’s bedroom, putting on the turnout gear, assisting with Stop, Drop and Roll. Volunteers will also supervise operating the pedal cars, bicycles and inspecting bike helmets. In our paramedic class, volunteers may assist the instructor on the backboard or stretcher and assist in supervising students going through the ambulance. This requires supervision with the younger students (and patience!).
We also have our volunteers and students wear our mascots (Sparky and Elmer) to greet the students upon their arrival to the Safety Village.
The time commitment for a volunteer can vary as we can have morning sessions (9:45 am-11:45 am) and full day sessions (9:45 am-1:15 pm) depending on how many programs the school will participate in.
In addition to seeking volunteers to assist with our regular programs, the Niagara Safety Village also relies on volunteers who are willing to assist us with our special events. If you are interested in volunteering with the Niagara Safety Village, please contact us!
